Arguably the most prestigious and sought-after creative writing fellowship in the nation, the Stegner Fellowship is housed at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. The fellowship term is two years, and fellows receive a $26,000/year living stipend while attending weekly workshops with one of the country's most impressive faculty lineups (Chang-Rae Lee, Adam Johnson, and Elizabeth Tallent in fiction; Eavan Boland and Ken Fields in poetry). Stegner Fellows are expected to attend a weekly workshop and other literary events, but do not have other academic obligations. The application process is also famously competitive, with usually something like 1,200 applications for 5 spots in fiction and 5 spots in poetry.
This is a one-year fellowship at San Jose State University in San Jose, CA that comes with a $10,000 stipend. The intent of the fellowship is to help emerging writers finish a significant writing project. The fellowship is open to applications in fiction, drama, creative nonfiction, and biography, but not poetry.
